Overview

Stepper Motors are widely used in CNC machines, robotics, process automation systems and other applications, but they require a matching driver to process motion reference signals into the high drive currents for operation.

We offer compatible stepper motor drivers for our compete range of step motors and for motors from other suppliers and manufacturers. For driving tiny stepper motors of 20 mm flange size up to high torque stepper motors of 110 mm (NEMA 42) size, we have a solution. Give us the specification of your motor and some details of your application and we will recommend the optimal driver.

Where space is at a premium, or wiring must be minimised, we offer compact integrated drivers that are designed to be mounted directly on the motor.

SMD Series Stepper Motor Drivers

The simplest and most cost effective stepper motor drives are step/direction type such as the SMD series from our Estonian partner, Smart Motor Devices. SMD series drivers process STEP (Pulse – one per motor step) and DIR (Level – low/high indicates forwards/backwards) signals as a motion reference. High level voltage is 5-24VDC which is suitable for the most signal sources. Such sources could be a motion controller, PLC, PC, Arduino, or even a simple frequency generator.

SMD series drivers are suitable to control bipolar 2 and 4-phase stepper motors. Microstepping mode provides smooth and precise positioning. Digital inputs are provided which can be configured with functions such as emergency stop or alarm. When stationary, motor current can be reduced for lower heating and energy saving.
